8/30/2024 - The Mongolian Plains Launch

This one took a while longer than I hoped, but The Mongolain Plains is officially released!

The Mongolain Plains contains:

  • An alternate history of Asia where the Mongols took over the whole continent,
  • Rich lore that allows for diverse locations, people, and gear,
  • A table for generating local conflicts that players can stumble upon or seek out,
  • Monsters inspired by different myths across Asia,
  • And rules for travel, resource gathering, hardcore healing, and diseases.

It is a rough-and tumble setting inspired mostly by American westerns, with a little bit of The Dark Tower, Fullmetal Alchemist, and old high school history lessons thrown in. I remember watching John Greene's short crash course lessons in class, and just about every episode, the civilization in question would be doing dandy. But then he would say, and the whole class chanted this with him, "Until they were conquered by... wait for it... the Mongols." I thought that was really funny, and it kind of cemented the Mongols in my head as this all-powerful, destructive force. So I decided to go with that idea and have them be the big-baddies of this world.

Also included with this release: updates to everything! It's a really small update, really, but one that I really like: colored setting guides. For anyone who cares about lore, most of the settings for this have been and will be from a select few worlds. I wasn't really sure what the right way to convey dimension/universe/world was without explicitly naming them, but then I started messing around with table colors and it provided a really nice effect. So each setting suppliment now has different colored boxes depending on what world it is from! There are still two world that don't have suppliments, but those should be coming soon-ish!

The following documents were updated to include colors:

  • Starbound-1.0.1
  • SteelMarch-1.0.3
  • ShiningSeas-1.0.3
  • Bordeax-1.0.3

Starbound was also updated with slightly different rules for ship combat. Nothing major, just some small wording tweaks to shore up issues that I had with it previously.
