10/24/2024 - Norrvei launch
Hey all! I'm excited to announce the release of the newest setting suppliment, Norrvei! It's pretty heavily inspired by the Dishonored series of games (and honestly, every other game put out by Arcane Studios in recent memory) set within a highly varied game world. I actually started this suppliment by coming up with the Blessing spells at the very end, and while they went through a few iterations, I'm happy with the final options. This is my second attempt at leaning harder into political intrigue, Bordeaux being the first, and I feel that Norrvei does it a little bit better. It really leans into the complex relationships and agendas of the leaders within the nation, while still fleshing out the lifestyle and stories of the common folk. I wanted this setting to be a pretty heavy sandbox, so while there's no immediate threat, there's plenty of opportunities for story hooks and interesting decisions.
Norrvei contains:
- An alternate look at the Scandenavian peninsula, a highly varied country filled with magic, technology, and tradition,
- Rich lore that allows for diverse locations, people, and gear,
- Thirty unique Blessing spells to pick and choose from,
- A table for randomly generating magic items,
- A list of interesting NPC's, each of which could also be Blessed
- And rules for stealth attacks, hooks and tales, and new spellcasting mechanics.
Also, because I am a software developer and incremental change is normal for me, I've updated most every document just a little bit. Here are those changes:
Core rules and GM Guide:
- Removed remaining mentions to crits. Last update I removed critical hits from the system, but there were still a few mentions of the rule scattered around. Those should be gone now.
The Mongolain Plains, Starbound, Bordeaux, Shining Seas, Steel March:
- Removed remaining mentions to crits.
- Moved the core rules back to pages 2-3. After messing around with it, I've decided that this is how I like the "flow" best. Is this just undoing an old change? Yes. Have I updated the formatting to feel less out of place? Also yes.
And that's it for now! I hope people are enjoying the worlds that I make, they've been really fun to create and I have no plans to slow down. I have a note filled with future suppliments, but I already have the next two pretty planned out. The next release will be the Ashen Waves, a post-apocalyptic world where your gear is everything. The following release will be a dungeon crawler that finally ties together the lore of all these settings (yes, there is lore, MatPat), and unlocks a whole new way to play Viator...
